The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, September 17, 1908 CLARENCE AMO JOHNSON was born in Chariton, July 1, 1888, and died at the home of his brother, HILMER JOHNSON, at Wausau, Neb., Sept. 13, 1908, age 20 years, 2 months and 12 days, after an illness of over a year with tuberculosis. He went to Nebraska about a year ago hoping to regain his health, and has during that time resided with his brother. He visited his parents, P.E. JOHNSON and wife, a few weeks last spring. Although his death was not unexpected it brings the same bitter pangs, and the young life which was filled with happy anticipations for the future is cut down in the prime of youth. He was a member of the Swedish Lutheran Church of Chariton, was a choir member, an active worker in the Lutheran League, and was an exemplary young man. The remains were brought to this city Tuesday night and taken to the home of his parents. Largely attended funeral services were held at the Swedish Lutheran Church, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Pastor, Rev. Elmquist, and the remains interred in the Chariton Cemetery. Besides his parents he leaves three brothers; HILMER, of Wausau, Neb.; GUSTAS and ESKIL of Chariton and numerous other relatives and friends to mourn his death, and who have the sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert March 27, 2005 iggy29@rnetinc.net http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas/Main.htm census information: June 13, 1900 Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa Peter A.
