John, Not researching this line so going by data you posted. Also seems to be a problem with all the nativities on the 1880. But if the parental nativities of the children's mother are correct, I found in 1870 Cartwright twp, Sangamon co, John & Catharine Duncan & the 4 kids. 1860 Subdivision 17, Sangamon co has an 18 y/o female E. Ross enumerated as a servant in the household of S. Campbell. And in 1850, unknown twp, Samgamon co are 8 y/o Elizabeth Ross, 5 y/o Geo. Ross, both born Il. in the h/h of Hiram & Catharine Penny. If this is your Catharine/Elizabeth Ross, you might have to try for the marriage record for the Duncans. The Duncan family are also on the 1885 & 1895 IA. state census in Fremont co. Dick
