The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, December 27, 1906 ENGLISH TOWNSHIP NEWS: G.J. MCDOWELL died at his home, Thursday morning at one o'clock, after a brief illness of about thirty-two hours. He was taken suddenly ill Tuesday evening and continued getting worse until death released him of his great pain. Funeral services were held at Central Church, Sunday at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Bates. Interment took place in Oxford Cemetery. MR. MCDOWELL was well known and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves a wife, a mother, four brothers and six sisters. His was one of the largest funerals had in this locality for years. His brother, WILL, of Alberta, Canada, arrived Saturday night in time to attend the funeral. He started before his brother became ill and was greatly shocked when he learned at Indianola of his brother's death.
