The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, March 16, 1905

A.C. VAN VLEET, a young man who said his home was in Mt. Pleasant, met with a painful accident at this place Tuesday morning. He was riding the bumpers on No. 5 and when the train reached Chariton he shifted his position and his foot caught between the cars and was quite badly mashed. He was taken to Crips' lunch room by the night watchman, HANS BECK, and DR. THROCKMORTON was summoned who dressed his injuries, and he was able to return to his home on No. 10 Tuesday morning.
