why would 18 year go from KS. to Iowa in early1880's

I am at a brick wall I found my husband's uncle on 2 census. Then I found him on 1884 death film; and it stated his name; age[which is probably wrong]State[Iowa] reason of death: which was Thyphoid and where buried in Kansas. He is not in that cemetery so now where would I look. Help!
