In the 1880 Marion Co., Iowa census, Eva is listed as age 14, living with grandparents, William K. Elder and Rachel (Metcalf). Also living in this household were John, son to William and Rachel, and Nellie age 7, another granddaughter.
I thought that Eva and Nellie were sisters and children of John; however, I also show that John was married in 1871 to Martha Ellen Schloterback who died in 1876. So Martha is not Eva's mother.
I then looked in the 1870 Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa census and found Eva living with W. K. & Rachel Elder, age 3; however, that census does not give relationship.
In the "Marriage Records of Marion Co., Iowa", pg 38, there is listed John Elder being married to Ellen Schloterback (Martha). There is also listed a John W. Elder married to Emily Jane Banta on 14 Apr 1864. Does anyone know if John (son of William K. and Rachel Elder) had a middle name that began with a "W"? Is it possible that John was married to 1/ Emily; 2/ Martha Ellen and 3/ Jessie Abagail Burch? ? ?
Would like to know to whom Eva belongs.
