Seeking information about the parents and ancestors of John H. HOUGHTALING [b. 19 Jul 1816, probably in Delaware Co., NY; d. 17 Jul 1860, Mahaska Co., IA] and Sarah Juliette COVEY [b. 26 May 1819, Broome Co., NY; d. 20 Feb 1899, Mahaska Co., IA, who were probably m. in 1839 in Mahaska Co., IA . She was a dau. of Daniel COVEY, Sr. and Phanella BURGETT [b. 1792, probably Harpersfield/Kortright, Delaware Co., NY; d. Mahaska Co., IA].
John and Sarah Juliette probably migrated from Broome Co., NY to Mahaska Co., IA during the period 1845-1847, when the last of their 3 children b. in Broome Co. was b. and the first of their other 4 children were b.
Phanella [Fanny] BURGETT was the youngest child of Jehoiakim BURGHARDT/BURGETT of Harpersfield/Kortright/Davenport, Delaware Co., NY. Jehoiakim and his younger brother, Hendrick, were both listed in the 1790 Census for Harpersfield and the 1800 Census for Kortright, which had been formed in 1793 from parts of the towns of Harpersfield, Delaware Co. and Maryland, Otsego Co.
Phanella m2. Daniel COVEY in 1815. They probably migrated from Delaware Co. to nearby Broome Co. in 1815, where their 4 children [Hiram, 1817; Sarah Juliette, 1819; Daniel, Jr., 1825; and Elisha, 1826] were born before they subsequently migrated further westward to Mahaska Co. IA, where both Daniel and Phanella died.
