Hi Sharon

I put the wrong date , it was 1968, Walter Wright died in Watsonville, Santa Cruz County, California. In the calif death index they give the mother maiden name of Pugh, but the main name of Walter Wright is the actual name. I was looking at that Winterset, 1860 census in Madison County, and William is there from Virgina, but he was only 11, it seems he should be 21. Oh well! There is some more people from Virginia, and there is a Shelton Wright age 54 and from Virginia ( possibably a relative).
James Elmer Wright, son of Walter Wright, is the person I am trying to help find his roots. He was born in the 1930's. I wonder if his middle name is from Elmer Pugh. They went together to Oregon for awhile as you told me after 1887.

I lookup that Civil War part on William Wright. Like you said he was with the 4 Cav reg. of Iowa, and it said he enlisted from Winterset, Iowa. He was a wagoneer. It looks like he handled wagons for Iowa 4 Cav.

That place you said that William came from---Roanoke, Virginia had Cherokee tribes in that area. James Wright said his granfather William was part Irish and part Cherkee Indian. It is a possibility.

Who was that Mary Wright? What happened there, did she passed on, or a divorce?

I read all that information you had on Eliza Pugh and William H Pugh. Sad story about the fire, and after they divorced. Eliza McClain was her maiden name, and she was born in Ohio in 1848. You sure did a good search of all the Pugh family, and also the Wrights . What is your relation to the families?

On the next message I will give you of what I know of the Wrights, mostly censuses that I did in California. James didn't know much about his family.

Jim
