Levi Smith was the son of Greenberry and Mary (Duncan) Smith. Greenberry and Mary died in 1834 in Jackson Co, IN. They left 3 small children; Calvin 5, Levi 4, and Serena 3. These children were taken in by Greenberry's older brother Aquilla Smith and his wife Elizabeth (Collier) Smith. Levi, Calvin and Serena moved to Madison Co, Iowa about 1848 as part of Aquilla's family.
