Who were the ancestors and descendants of this Elias Wert? His name appears in the

Biographies from the book, "The History of Madison County, Iowa, 1879"


Wert, Elias, Penn twp., farmer, Sec. 26; P.O. Earlham; owns eighty acres of land; was born in 1843, in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; came to Iowa in 1870; married in
1867 to Miss C. E. Rough, of Pennsylvania; has five children; Mr. W. served in the army for four years, in company C, Ninth Indiana infantry; mustered out in Texas; Mr. W. has a most honorable war record, being in active service four years; was in the battles of Greenbriar, Stone River, Mission Ridge and many others.
