Larry:

I know very little about John and Sally (Shepherd) Shaw family. I know that they appear in the 1820 Meigs County, OH Rutland Township census at page 115a and that they are also found in the 1830 Meigs Co., OH census (Volume 135, Pg. 261). In the 1830 census John and Sally have 5 males (presumably sons) under the age of 15 listed in their household. The John Shaw family in the 1840 census of Lee Co., IA has 2 male (presumably sons) under the age of 20 in the household.

I do believe that according to what census record I have concerning this family that it would be more likely that your John could be a grandson of this John. He would have been in his mid 60's when your John was born.

The Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation offers a free dna kit and test that may be of benefit. I have submitted my dna and there are several other Shaw's in the database. The web site is at http://www.smgf.org

Keep in touch and good luck.
