I am not researching this family but I do have a 2 volume set of books, "History of Kossuth County, Iowa" by B.F.Reed, published in 1913. Vol. II is family histories and there is a family history of William Barlow Quarton beginning on page 460. This history also includes a full page picture of him. Following is a summary of the history: WILLIAM BARLOW QUARTON William Barlow Quarton was born on a farm near Carlinville, Illinois, August 24, 1858, son of William B. Quarton and Charlotte Gill. Both were natives of Yorkshire, England. They were both about 10 years of age when their respective families settled in Scott and Morgan counties, Illinois. After William B. and Charlotte (Gill) Quarton were married, they moved to Macoupin county, Illinois and stayed until 1867 when they moved to Mahaska county, Iowa. William B. Quarton (married to Charlotte) was a farmer and raised and bred Shorthorn cattle which he exhitited at stock shows and fairs throughout southern Iowa between 1870 and 1890. He won many premiums. William B. Quarton died in 1904 and Charlotte died on September 28, 1908. William Barlow Quarton, son of William and Charlotte, was 9 years old when his parents moved to Iowa. Later he entered Oskaloosa College and then the University of Iowa where he graduated in 1880 with a degree of A.B. and also 1882 with the LL.B degree. He was admitted to practice law and in the fall of 1882 he moved to Algona, Kossuth County, Iowa to set up private practice. He was appointed judge of the fourteenth judicial district of Iowa in August, 1894 to fill a vacancy. Later in 1894 he was elected to the same position and was chosen for judicial honors three times, serving until January, 1907. William Barlow Quarton married Miss Ella B. Reaser on September 15, 1886 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska county, Iowa. She was the daughter of David and Charlotte Reaser of Oskaloosa. David Reaser was a boot and shoe merchant and was a pioneer resident of Oskaloosa, arriving there about 1850. David died in Oskaloosa in 1881 but Carlotte Reaser was still living when this book was written (1912/1913). Mrs. Ella Quarton was one of the organizers of the Algona chapter of the P.E.O. and was also a member of the Library Aid Society. William and Ella Quarton had five children: Harold B., born February 8, 1888, is engaged in the government consular service and is deputy consul-general at Berlin, Germany. Sumner D., born November 28, 1889, is an English and public speaking instructor in the Fremont, Nebraska high school and is studying law. Helen I., born in 1895, Florence H., born in 1898, and William B., Jr., born March 27, 1903, are all at home. Judge William B. Quarton is a republican. He was very active in city government, fraternal and social organizations. He was one of the leading dairymen of the state and belonged to several cattle clubs and breeding associations. He lectured on agricultural and dairy topics in nearly all the western states and his services are sought by the large lecture bureaus of the country. END
