Surnames mentioned are: Williams, Walter, Schultz, Davis, Beckus, Moran, Wright, Vancelins, Hescock, Zarr, Hackworth, Cross, Gephart, Steffenmeyer, Weigardt, Mattley, Couch, Gammel, Berndt, Stillwell, Marsh. Thomas Lyman Williams was born in Mass. in 1827. He married Catherine Moran (b. 1832 in Vermont) on 08 April 1847 in Windham Co., Vermont. They migrated to Jones Co., Iowa in the mid 1860's. Most of their children were married in Jones County and three of them were probably born there. Thomas died Jones County, Iowa (supposedly from a tree falling on him) at about age 51 and is probably buried there. Catherine remarried to an Allen Fowkes (or Fawkes) on 11 March 1880 in Monticello, Jones Co., Iowa. I find her and her youngest son (Thomas E. Williams) on the US census in 1880 living with Mr. Fowkes and in the Iowa census of 1885 living with Mr. Fowkes. I next pick up Catherine living with her older sons (John and James in California (Siskiyou County and Tehama County in 1900) but she is once again going by the surname of Williams. Thomas Lyman Williams & Catherine (Moran) Williams had nine children: 1] John A. Williams (b. 1850)m. Catherine E. Louise Walter on 27 September 1890 in Anamosa, Jones Co., Iowa. He was in Seward, Seward Co., NE. in 1900 w/wife and children. Migrated to Oklahoma, Kansas and then California. MY DIRECT: Charles K. Williams - the 2nd son and 2nd child of Thomas & Catherine (Moran) Williams. Charles K. Williams b. in Vermont in 1852 married Fidelia Hescock (daughter of Sylvester Hescock & Lucinda (Marsh) Hescock) 30 May 1872 in Townsend, Windham Co., Vermont. They obtained a divorce in Seward Co., NE on 03 or 05 January 1900 (I have a copy of the divorce file from the Seward Co. Courthouse). They had 5 children: 1] Ellen b. abt. 1874 who married 1st Darwin R. Stillwell on 01 June 1892 in Seward Co., NE. and married 2nd Albert W. Berndt in abt. 1906. Three children by Albert Berndt: Glen A., Helen E. and Mary E. – all Berndt’s. 2] Charles S. Williams b. 1875 d. 1900 who married Mary Gammel on 11 may 1898 in Seward Co., NE. (one child: Edgar Williams b. 1899 Seward Co. NE.) 3] Carrie E. Williams b. 1880 who married William B. Couch on 16 November 1897 in Seward Co., NE. (two known children: William b. 1899 & Raymond b. 1904 – both born in Seward Co., NE.). There may have been other children (Milo and William have been suggested – but can’t find them). Lost them after 1900 Census. 4] Bert E. Williams b. 1883 who married Nora O. Mattley on 27 July 1904 in Ord, Valley Co., NE. --- MY GRANDPARENTS. 5] Frank E. Williams b. 1885 who married Olena (_____) (b. in Norway) abt. 1907 poss. Cheyenne Co., NE. Two children: Edward L. and Clarence E. both born in NE. According to Bert’s (brother of Frank) obit, Frank was living in Pennsylvania in 1944. Bert and Frank were the under-age children at the time of Charles & Fedlia's divorce (1900) and are therefore mentioned in the divorce proceedings. Charles K. Williams - 6 months after his divorce was finalized he married Mrs. Laura Jane (Cross) Hackworth on 03 July 1900 in Seward Co., NE (Laura’s 1st husband had died of cancer a few years earlier). Charles & Laura moved (along with her Hackworth children) to Oklahoma and had one child there: 1889-1890: According to divorce records (1900) Charles & Delia Williams migrated to Nebraska sometime before 1889. Their divorce records state they had lived in Seward Co., Nebraska for more than 10 years. In 1885 they & their little family were living in Iowa. I have marriage records (copies) for Charles to Laura, Fidelia to Andy and for all of their children who were married in Seward Co., NE. Also have the divorce file (copies of) for Charles and Fidelia Williams. The family story goes that all of the Williams clan (Charles and his siblings) were living in Seward Co., NE until Charles divorced Fidelia. At that time Charles & one brother moved to Oklahoma while the rest moved to California. Most of the story is being proved true with research. --- vlww. Notify Administrator about this message?
