Margaret Snyder wife of Daniel Sheeler
Daughter of John and Mary (?) Snyder of Pennsylvania and of Richland County Ohio.
Margaret Snyder married Daniel Sheeler on April 5 1841 in Richland County Ohio. According to her husband Daniel’s write up in The 1901 Jasper County Biographies Iowa, Fairview Township, she was the daughter of John and Margaret Snyder both of Pennsylvania. In the 1840 Census Daniel’s father Abraham Sheeler and wife, Mary Miller were living in Perry Township, Wayne County, Ohio.
By 1850 Abraham and Mary Miller Sheeler were living with two adult children, Margaret and Abraham Jr., in Vermillion Township, Richland County, Ohio. With them at that time was Isaiah Sheeler aged 10 son of unmarried adult daughter Margaret Sheeler.
Daniel Sheeler and wife Margaret Snyder are enumerated in the previous household in 1850, with children Mary Jane Sheeler 7, Susannah Sheeler 5, Francis M. Sheeler 2. Margaret Snyder Sheeler’s age is given as 24, and born in 1826, inconsistent with the birth date on her headstone of 1823, which would have made her 27. In the 1880 census she was enumerated as age 54 which again gives us the birth year of 1826.
In 1840 In Richland and Wayne Counties the following John Snyder/Snider/Snader, Male Heads of Household appear, with daughters in Margaret’s age group. One of these is Margaret Snyder‘s father.

Margaret’s Headstone, in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, jasper Co., Iowa gives her birth as:

death as:
26 June 1889.
Has anyone already researched the Snyder Families mentioned above in the Townships of Congress, London, Montgomery and Union? If so can you place or eliminate my Margaret Snyder born between 1823 and 1826 in Pennsylvania as a member of their family? Marrying the same year in Richland were John Snyder and Mary Muck/Mauk. John Snyder and Tina Swarts. John Cresswall and Catherine Snyder. Some might be siblings.
