Centenary Cook Book (Can't ID town or date as the first 12 pages of the book are gone but the advertisers are from Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, which was founded in 1835.)
Strawberry Jam Cake.
One cup sugar, three-fourths cup butter, tree eggs beaten separately, three-fourths cup thick strawberry jam, one-third cup sour milk, one teaspoon soda dissolved in the milk, two cups cake flour, one teaspoon cinnamon, one-half grated nutmeg. Cream butter and sugar, add beaten yolks, continue beating, then jam, add a little flour to bind mixture, then milk, add rest of flour, beating well and spices. Fold in stiffly beaten whites of eggs. Bake in loaf or layers. Frost with white icing. Bake in moderate oven. -- Mrs. George Luberger, Sr.
