SMITH and JACKSON in Henry County, Iowa

The 1880 census of Scott, Henry County, Iowa lists the family of John SMITH age 44 born in IA, wife "Acertus" age 40 born Indiana, children Allis (Alice) age 21, Ella (Louella) age 14, Rudy age 13, and Exie age 6, plus mother-in-law Daraxa JACKSON age 73, born PA.

"Acertus" Smith was born Alcestes JACKSON in Rush County, Indiana, daughter of Onias Jackson and Daraxa Laughlin.

Has anyone run across these names in their family records, or found any of them listed in a cemetery record? John Smith was a carpenter, so he may not have stayed in Henry County -- he may have moved back to Des Moines County, where he was in 1870.

It is known that Daraxa Laughlin Smith lived until about 1896, but no one has found her place of burial.

Thanks --
Nancy Shire
