Hi Jeff I'm not sure about the hardware store but I know there are Kruses' still in the area. You are working with a hard area though because Hillsboro is on the south west corner of the county. So Henry, Van Buren, and Lee counties all meet there, and records could be in any or all. Hillsboro was never a large town, and now about all that is left is a quick stop, bank and grain elevator. You might try to reach the Hillsboro Library, they did have some local history the last time I was there (several years ago) but not alot. I'm sorry I'm not sure what days or hours it is open, I think a volunteer group runs it. And for anyone else that reads this no I don't know alot about all the small towns in Henry Co but I grew up about 6 miles from this one--LOL
I remember a grocery store, feed store, bank, school, post office, meat locker, tavern and know there had been other businesses. Good Luck if I think of it I'll ask my mom about the hardware store.
