Joyce could you check and see if you can find anything on the surname Kruse, specifically a Kruse Hardware store possibly around Hillsboro. The story passed on to me was that when my original Kruse family came from Germany (1854) one of the boys was quarantined in New York due to scarlett fever, the family waited a little while but finally said they couldn't wait any longer and left the boy, told him they were heading for Iowa(Scott County). The family never heard from him again. But a Kruse relative of mine claims his grandpa was doing carpenter work around Hillsboro in the 1930's or 40's and needed some nails so he went to the hardware store and its was Kruse hardware. And supposedly it was a son or grandson of the Kruse that was quaruntined for scarlett fever. He had came to Iowa and was that close to his family(Iowa & Scott county) but never connected with them. If you could verify that there was even a Kruse store it would give me something to go on. Thanks A Million! Jeff
