I have hit a brick wall and don't know what direction to take. May be there is no complete answere to the question, Where did this man die and how? Any obituary or new article? Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Sullivan Cooley came to Guthrie County Iowa from Livingston County, Michigan sometime between 1874 and 1876 settling in the NE 1/4 of section 1 T81 R32. In July of 1877 he married Sarah E. Arrowsmith. The Arrowsmith's farmed just a couple of miles west of where Bayard, Iowa is now, just south of Willow township in Greene County, Iowa. After their marriage, Sullivan and Sarah Cooley had a son born to them in June of 1878. From family lore, it is said that Sullivan met an untimely death by drowning about 6 months after the birth of this child. When where is unknown. From Probate records and Guardian papers there is no date of death. The page that may have had the date listed was blurred and unreadaable from what I was told. Anyway the 1st of February 1879 there is a list of the inventory of Sullivan's things and the date for the auction is 10th of March 1879. Therefore his death must have been about 6 months after his death which would put it in the December 1878 to January 1879 range. I have found out that Sullivan is buried in the Willow Twp. Cemetery in Greene County, which is just north of where the Arrowsmith Family lived (~3 miles). Next to him are his father-in-law, mother-in-law, and wife. I have had help from the Greene and Guthrie County Gen Societies. Where can I go next? Any help would be appreciated. Notify Administrator about this message?
