Copson

My great grandfather was David A. Copson. He was a broom makaer in Fremont County, Iowa and was a Civil War veteran, who died in a Soldiers' Home in Marion Indiana. Sadly, his name was not known to my father growing up; his mother's family used the last name of their mother's (Sarah Ann Nichols) first husband. Sarah had 4 daughters that were Nichols: Ella, Alice, Florence and May. She married David Alington Copson 7 7 1888 in Omaha, she had baby girl that died, Howard, and Lee and Ethel (my grandmother who died when my Dad was 4). David Copson had a previous marriage and had a son, Clyde who was an artist in Chicago and later, New York City. He died in Los Angeles. In the 1940 census, Clyde has a son David. I want to understand how the Copsons I can see in Fremont County are related to my grandmother and perhaps locate birth records for the Copson children.
1880 Sarah is in Clear Creek Co
1890 census burned
1900 Starke County Indiana with a dairy farm and all 7 children
Although David died in Indiana 100 miles from his second wife, no mention of him was ever made. Sarah died at 90 in 1940. Thanks so much for any help or direction I might take. Linda
