Bridge was thought to be built by Ashbel Van Scyoc in 1858. He disappears in about 1859. Was there a flood? Illness? No grave has been found for him.

Looking for info on this man.

He may have been born in VA ca 1808.
He may have lived in Marion Co., IN
He is found on the 1836 Iowa Territory Census
In 1845 in Holt Co., MO he marries Sarah Ann Farley, d/o Thomas and Margaret Ferguson Farley from VA.

Children: Margaret SHIRLEY, Franklin, Jackson, Thomas Benton or Benjamin, Almira BECKWITH

He lives in Fremont Co., IA from 1846 to 1859.
He may have constructed a covered bridge ca 1859.
He may have died in a flood or on a journey as a no grave site has been found.

He may be the son of Cornelius Van Scyoc, son of Abel, and Cornelius' wife Almira Goodrich. Almira had a relative named "Asbel Goodrich" who served with a "Cornelius Van Scyoc" in the war of 1812 in VA.

Two daughters of Cornelius also come to Fremont Co., IA: Elizabeth KEELER, and Ruth MUSTARD.

Any info on an Ashbel a help.
