Garden Grove Locals September 6, 1894 Garden Grove, Iowa Part Three Orrin RUFFCORN of Weldon, was in town Tuesday. Uncle John CARTER, of Davis city, was in Garden Grove Tuesday. The republican county ticket consists of three Jims and two Johns. Wm. WATERS had the misfortune to lose a fine mare last Sunday. T. J. KNAPP is attending the state fair at Des Moines this week. Major YOUNG moved the old postoffice safe into his office last Monday. S. P. MCNIELL is spending the week in Des Moines attending the state fair. Miss Belle BEER went to Des Moines last week to visit with the family of Major KELLOGG. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. MCCLUNG started the first of the week for Indiana for a visit with relatives. Miss Carrie JUDD began her third years teaching at Stony Point school house last Monday. Mrs. Margaret BRADY of Garden Grove was in the city on business Monday - Chariton Herald. We had a nice rain last Sunday, lasting five or six hours. Ten times as much more would be thankfully received. J. S. BROWN went to Chicago last week for the purpose of purchasing his fall and winter stock of dry goods and clothing. W. G. GREGORY, of Tabor, Fremont county, was here the first of the week and bought 100 head of feeding cattle and shipped them on Tuesday. Miss Josephine KELLOGG, of Provost, Utah is visiting in Leon, the guest of Mrs. L. P. SIGLER. Miss KELLOGG enjoys the distinction of being the first child born in the town of Garden Grove. - Reporter The entertainment given at the opera house last Friday evening by Noah BATTLE was not very well attended though the singing is said to have been about as good as that of some of the traveling troupes. Epworth League song service at the Methodist church next Sabbath evening at 7:30 p.m. sharp. Will take the place of the regular preaching service. A good program is being arranged. Please bring your Bibles. We have noticed a large number of corn harvesters going out within the past few days. Farmers who have a large amount of stock to feed find it too much work to cut up a sufficient amount of corn by hand. We notice in our exchanges accounts of numerous games of base ball between the "fats" and the "leans," and in every instance that we have notes the "fats" have won. The lean men's supposedly great agility doesn't appear carry them through this season. Stephen SCOTT is making some extensive improvements in his building occupied by M. S. BENEFIEL's restaurant. The entire front is being torn out and it will be replaced with a modern front of pressed brick with a bay window in the second story. It will make it one of the neatest business blocks in Garden Grove.
