Achilles MORRIS of VA/WV =>KY? =>IL/IA. Achilles b. Kanawha Co. (now West Virginia) is possibly father to one Jeremiah MORRIS b. between 1810-1820. Jeremiah m. 26 Sep 1837 in Des Moines Co., Iowa, Mary A. Nancy ENGLISH (dau of Capt. Levin Nelson ENGLISH b. 1792 MD & Mary TUCKER b. 1794 KY). Of this union were 2 children, Hiram MORRIS (b. 1838 in Iowa) & Anna MORRIS (b. 1842 in Iowa). Nancy/Mary (ENGLISH) m2. Coleman BURNETT on Oregon Trail 11 June 1845 in Indian (later Kansas) Terr., had more children and remained in Oregon. She & Jeremiah divorced (?) or he died bet. 1842-1845, perhaps on trail to Oregon. He may be connected to one Lorenzo Dow MORRIS of Illinois in mid 1800's; also to one James M. MORRIS, m. 23 Mar 1843 in Des Moines Co., Iowa, Kattalina/Catalina CORNELIUS -- trekked to Oregon in 1845 w/families BURNETT & ENGLISH.
Jeremiah is found in 1838 & 1840 census in DesMoines Co., Iowa Territory. He could be aka "Johnny or John MORRIS" (as was grandson Jeremiah Morris EADS, aka Johnny EADS, b. 22 Jan 1863 in Willamette Valley, OR.) [Eads, EADES, EDES] Jeremiah M. Eads, my great-grandfather, m. 08 Aug 1891 in Heppner, OR, Nancy Jane MILLER ("Tinnie" / "Tennie" MILLER, b. 1869). He is a son of Henry William EADS (b. 1827 in MO) & Anna or Martha Ann MORRIS (b. 1842 in IA), who m. in Polk/Yamhill Co. Oregon 24 Aug 1856. Children (living to maturity) include 5 sons: Lorenzo Dow "Charles Edward" EADS (b. 1858), Albert McClellan EADS (b. abt 1861), Jeremiah Morris EADS (b. 1863), William Ellis "Dell" EADS (b. 1866), Achilles Jackson Clinton "Jack" EADS (b. 1868)... and 2 daughters: Iola Entine EADS (b. 1857, m. Robert Lee MILLER) and Mittie L. EADS (possibly Matilda, b. 1871, m. James M. PRATT).
Two men (cousins) named Achilles MORRIS married into JARRETT family. One b. abt 1797, one abt. 1799. Winnebago, Black Hawk, Mexican war veteran (d. 1847) appears more likely, but I can't find his family. Two wives, and conflicting data, found in LDS/IGI submissions. One doc says widow of Capt. Achilles MORRIS remarried and moved to Missouri w/children. One says he left a widow and 11 children in Sangamon County, Illinois.
