Seek to determine if the Peter Smith appearing in 1880 and 1910 Davison Co. SD Census is the same as or did family remain in Delaware Co IA:

Peter SMITH(1830IRE-) was married to Kate ?(1845IRE-) with children: Mary(1858IA-), Ella L.(1860IA-), Mary Ann(1867IA-), & James(1869IA-). In 1870, Peter SMITH family living on Patrick GAFFNEY farm in Prarie Twp., Delaware Co. Iowa.

Kate SMITH in 1880 was found living in Manchester\IA working as a servant with Peter SMITH absent and children:
Mary Ann c1866IA, James c1868IA, Kate c1872IA, Phillip c1873IA, Jane c1874IA,
Peter c1877IA, John SMITH c1878IA
In 1880, Peter SMITH may have been homesteading(160 acres 25MAR1885) in Davison County, Dakota Territory with his cousin Charles SMITH(c1866WI-). Peter was still living in the 1910 Mitchell\Davison\SD Census at age 81.
