My great grandmother was Cecelia West, and she married John Wicks on Dec. 24, 1874, in Van Meter, Dallas Co., Iowa. Cecilia called Celia, was b. on Sept. 13, 1848, in Stoke Ferry, Norfolk, England. Her parents were Michaiel and Mary Wicks. She came to the U.S. in 1872. Did she automatically become a U.S. citizen when she married? The year she was naturalized was 1874 on the 1920 Census. In my research I find a number of Wicks ancestors married to Wests. I am trying to determine why Celia came to Iowa, i.e. did she follow a sibling here? Are the Wests from the same family group?
