Sidney M. Smith b.Canada Apr 1850, immigrated to IA 1870, m. Christina Erickson, b.1861 Sweden, May 21, 1879, in Tilden, Cherokee, IA. She immigrated 1866. Sidney is mentioned in the 1885 Iowa state census, living in Amherst, Cherokee,IA. In the 1900 US census the Sidney Smith family is living in Le Mars, Plymouth, IA. All the children were born in IA. Ervin F. Smith was called Frank E. Smith, born in April, 1883. The other children, all younger, enumerated there are May L.; Pearl E.; Claud E.; Kittie B.; Clara P.; and Robert W. Frank E. (or Ervin F.) is already working as a barber. I lose track of everybody except Ervin after 1900, but I haven't given up. Ervin F., in 1910, has moved to Bend, Crook County, Oregon, and is working as a barber there and living in a boarding house. Haven't found him at all in 1920, but he surfaces in 1930, in Salem, Marion, OR, with the spelling Irving F. and is married to Ella A. (Ella Annette Colquette, mostly known as Annette.) Annette was in Salem in 1920, living and employed as a teacher at the Deaf School at the Fairgrounds. I believe Sidney is the son of a brother of my great great grandfather, Mathias Smith, Jr., who came from Canada to Clinton, DeKalb, IL by 1860, and then to Cherokee, Cherokee,IA before 1870. I am looking for the connection between Sidney McLain Smith and Mathias Smith, Jr. Notify Administrator about this message?
