Ms. Sinnwell,

I can share with you that I believe I found Verne' immediate family which I have listed below.

I would very much like to know more about this Wilson, because no one within this Houston/Bright (Lawton) family knows much about their Iowa family.

If you have something about Verne's family I would be so grateful to learn about it. This way the three researchers who are doing this family research will learn more that they don't know.

Also, can you tell me where I should go to find out where I can find specifically if the children of Charles Henry Lawton (Lawton was his English legal name) Bright (Bright was the name change which has been perpetuated through time now) and wife, Rebecca Catherine Rorabaugh existed within Iowa, Wright, Iowa, around the years 1883 and 1885, because when the Iowa state census were taken, they were taken per individual, not per family and I can't find any of this couple's children, which includes where Verne Wilson's wife, who was suppposed to have been born in Cerro Gordo, Iowa.

And I can't find any of Charles and Rebecca's children nor any (1) clue when they arrived in the Iowa area, which would zero in on (2) when Charles and Rebeccca got married and most interestingly, (3) when Charles Henry Lawton Bright changed his name from Lawton to Bright. (reason for name change is explained below)

Verne J. Wilson
b. 28 Jun 1892 Commerce, Iowa
Madison, Iowa
Assistant Cashier for the First National Bank
of Waterloo, Iowa
Had a wife and two children age 7mo and 3 yrs on 5 Jun 1917
Waterloo, Iowa,'s country recorder had Verne living in 3rd Prec, Ward 4 of Waterloo, Iowa
Verne was described as tall, brown eyes, and medium build and was not bald. He had no obvious disability. His stature within the Iowa community must have been high because his wife, Alpha, got away with telling the federal marshall that he could just refer to her as 'Mrs. Verne Wilson in the 1915 state census (as you will see below). Too bad she didn't give more information for the rest of us left behind and now want to know more!!

Name: Verne J Wilson
City: Waterloo
County: Black Hawk
State: Iowa
Birthplace: Iowa
Birth Date: 28 Jun 1892
Race: Caucasian (White)
Roll: 1643414
DraftBoard: 0

I have Verne and his wife, Alpharila 'Alpha' Bright living in Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa where he passed away in 1932 within the same place, Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa...although I haven't yet pinnted down the specific date...I'm still working on this.

Alpha Bright was the oldest daughter/child that lived by her parents. Her mother noted within Iowa's first census that there had been two children that weren't living then, which made Alpha the oldest living child.

Alpha's parents were Charles Henry Lawton Bright of England b. 27 Jan 1859 d. (7 a. m. of a gunshot wound) on 04 Dec 1914 Turtle, Pock, Wisconsin, in his own farm's yard in front of the barn he built. Charles had changed his name to Bright (it was actually Lawton, but because of some unethical horse dealings in another place of residence, there was a necessary move to another geographical place to evade the law and the consequencies to which he knew he would have his life ended by those who had the 'switch' done to; in the end (oral history has had it that) they did find him and shot him in the head, in Wisconsin, which has been confirmed on his death certificate.) Back then, the world revolved around the horse, today it revolves around the car; if someone did something to your horse, it was equivalent to what was known as a 'federal offense' and deat with accordingly.

There are three geneaologist who-are presently hot-on Charles' trail that are trying to find where he married his wife Rebecca Catherine Rorabaugh, who was born in Berks, Penn'a, and where it was that he had to change his name for the illegal horse trading. We have found through the records, Charles immigrated to the US in 1874 and was naturalized at the age of 26, which puts his naturalization within the year at 1885, which have been in Iowa.

Charles' wife was Rebecca Catherine Rorabaugh b. 16 Jun 1860 Berks, Penn'a d. 26 Jun 1932 Marshall, Lyon, Minnesota. This couple had 10 children all of whom lived in Cerro Gordo, Iowa. This couple is my husband's greatgrandparents, who he knows nothing about and we are having a wonderful time, struggling to find things out about them because Iowa didn't have a federal census taken until 1900, which we've learned, and only that of state census taken once a year until the year of 1900, which has saved us from not being able to find out something!

As close as I can pin down Verne's family would be these below.
1900 United States Federal Census
about Verne Wilson

Willis Wilson 39 b. Sep 1860 Indiana (father b. Indiana/ mother b. Kentucky)

Della Wilson 36 b. Dec 1864 Indiana (father b. Ohio/ mother b. Indiana)
This couple had been married 16 yrs which by 1900 census would have had them married in 1884, with only three children that survived to the 1900 census.

Vessie Wilson 14 (son) b. Jun 1885 b. Iowa

Verne Wilson 9 (son) b. May 1891 b. Iowa

Icle Wilson 5 (dau) b. May 1894 b. Iowa

------------------------------------------
Here's what I was able to find

Iowa State Census Collection, 1836-1925
about Mrs. Verne Wilson
Name: Mrs. Verne Wilson
Census Date: 1915
Residence County: Black Hawk
Residence State: Iowa
Locality: Black Hawk
Birth Location: Iowa

Mother's Birthplace: Pennsylvania
Father's Birthplace: Iowa <- we know this is incorrect, but that of England from our research.
Line: 52
Roll: IA1915_40

Can you help us with what was asked above. If there is anything more I'd be happy to see if I can find it. Please let me hear from YOU!!
