Mary Fowlie Obituary 1923

Mrs. Mary Fowlie, aged 69 years, for thirty-seven years a resident of Calhoun County, passed away at her home in Rockwell City Sunday, July 22.

Mrs. Fowlie underwent an operation for cancer some months ago and appeared to be improving in health since that time. A short time ago she became worse and was again confined to her bed. Her condition was then seen to be critical and she died within two weeks.

Mary Kiesel-Fowlie was born at Kankakee, Illinois, April 12, 1854. At the age of thirteen she moved to Blairstown, Iowa with her parents.

She was united in marriage to Alexander B. Fowlie, December 19, 1872 and to this union thirteen children were born. In 1886 the family moved to Calhoun County, settling on the Grove farm southwest of Rockwell City.

Her husband and four her children, Edith, Sylvia, Joseph and Roy preceeded her in death. She leaves to mourn her loss six sons and three daughters. They are Alex and Henry of Minneapolis, Mrs. Sophia Pratt of Cedar Falls, Mrs. C. E. Hull of Callender, Frank of Manson, and Will, George, Floyd and Mrs. E. C. Samsel of Rockwell City; also one sister, Mrs. John Stode of Keystone, Iowa, and three brothers, William Keisel of Chicago, Henry Keisel of Keystone, and Louis Homire of Elberton, Iowa.

Funeral services were held from the Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. W.J. Robinson officiating, internment at Rose Hill Cemetary.
