A sudden and terrible tragedy happened on the Joe Moore farm asouthwest of town Monday afternoon when, during an electrical storm which did not seem to be extending as far south as the Moore place, a bolt of lightning shot obliquely from the storm cloud to the northwest and struck dead Roy J. Fowlie, aged 24 years, while assisteng as a member of a threshing gang operating at Moore's. The young man was the son of the late Alex Fowlie and was unmarried. He was loading bundles in the field when death thus took him. The funeral was Wednesday afternoon from the Christian Church of this city, conducted by the senior pastor from Lohrville, internment being made in Rose Hill Cemetary, The entire community is mourning in sympathy with the stricken family.

The Herald, Pomeroy, IA 3 August 1911
