Sharon,

I have a very large favor to ask of you.

I have been trying to track down information on my Mullany ancestors who lived in Jesup from 1864 through to maybe 1920 or so. If you run across any Mullany mentions in the Jesup newspaper archives, could you let me know? I'm at jhmullany@yahoo.com. I have had very little luck in tracking down details of these ancestors' lives and microfiche of the Jesup papers are scarce out here in New Mexico (near Albuquerque).

The Mullany details are as follows:

My gg-grandfather was Patrick Mullany (1804-1886) who settled, with his wife Catherine O'Donnell Mullany (1813-1895), on a farm near Jesup in 1864. Their children were: Edmund Mullany (1846-1916) who married Mary Ann O'Regan (1853-1930); Mary Mullany (1847-?) who married James H. Kerwin (1842-1915); Katherine Mullany (1849-1910) who married Daniel J. Donovan (1850-1922); and Alice S. Mullany (1851-1925) who was a Sister of Mercy in Cedar Rapids and took the name Sister Mary Agatha. Patrick had a brother named William Mullany who had a sister or wife named Margaret, both of whom died in 1865 from an unknown calamity. Patrick, Catherine, William and Margaret are all buried in St. John's Cemetery, Independence, Iowa.

Edmund Mullany was a prominent farmer and community in his day, but I don't have much information about his life. His children were: Joseph P., Dr. Thomas J., John N., William P., Fr. Leo Hilary, Stephen Edmund, and Raphael "Ray". Father Leo Mullany, S.J. was also a noted writer, speaker, and poet in the Midwest. Edmund moved with his family to Waterloo in the early part of the twentieth century.
