Mona,
These are the Seekatz family names below, that I'm trying to tie together. George Seekatz was the father of my grandmother, Mabel Victoria (Seekatz) Lane & her sister, Ruth (Seekatz) Schelle. Their mother was Mary Jane (Roop), daughter of Elizabeth (Clayton) & Frederick Roop. Both the Seekatz & Roop families lived in Bremer Co. Iowa.

Frederick & Elizabeth Roop had 11 children & Mary Jane was the youngest. Her siblings were: Susannah (Roop) Shippy; William F. Roop; Andrew J. Roop (d- age 15), Thomas Roop (d- age 4); Elizabeth (Roop) Hunter, Lamb; Amos Roop; Harriett (Roop) Pitcher twin to Henry C. Roop; Daniel C. Roop, James Porter Roop; and Mary Jane (Roop) Seekatz. I'd also be interested in what references there are to them in the 1883 History of Bremer County Iowa.

Listed just above George's name in the Iowa Cemetery Records at Ancestry is the following, who could possibly be his father, grandfather or some other relative.

Name: August Seekatz

Death Date: 23 May 1869

Death Date: 28 Oct. 1933

Children: Mrs. Mabel Lane, Des Moines, Ia and Mrs. Ruth Shade of St. Louis, Mo. He was a carpenter by trade)
Relative: chi: Mrs. Mabel Lane

In the 1870 Iowa Census is the following Henry Seekatz, who could be a relative of George's. Notice that the county is the same as in George's cemetery listing & the township is the same as that listed for August Seekatz's cemetery listing above. The other entry below, Theodor Seekatz is a possibility for George's father from the 1860 Sauk Co. WI census, which is the county where George was born just 4 yrs. before that census.
