I suggest examination of the 1925 census for starters as it may name parents of listed persons and place of parents marriage. The 1925 census has been filmed and is available from several sources including the Family History Library.
Newspapers are also filmed and may be obtained via interlibrary loan from the Iowa State Historical Society via your local public library.
Mnay other sources may also shed light on the families mentioned. Check familysearch.org for some of the filmed records other than newspapers.
