Perhaps there is someone out there who has the answer to this question. A Joseph Weeks had an Inventory ca. 1676 in Kent, MD. I can find no Will or Estate and the Inventory doesn't lend any info either as to who this Joseph may have been. Listed in the Estate/Accounts of Thomas Hynson, July 24, 1673, a Joseph Weeks is listed as a brother in law to John Hynson, one of the sons of Thomas Hynson who died ca. 1668. Also listed as a brother in law is Thomas South and both men receive tob. for their wives part of the Estate of Thomas Hyson who d. ca. 1678. Grace Hynson, d/o Thomas the elder Hynson was married to Thomas South who in his Will of 13 Oct. 1673, "renounces Grace South, formerly called his wife." Joseph Weeks who is listed as a BIL is obviously married to Ann Hynson unless there is another daughter that is unknown. What is strange is that Benjamin Randall is married to Ann Hynson abt. 1676 when Benjamin is listed as a brother in law to Thomas Hynson the younger and a SIL to the former justice, Thomas the elder, who was dec.d by then. Then after Benjamin Randall d. intestate ca. 1682 we find "a" Joseph Wickes married to the relict of Benjamin Randall and the relict is obviously Ann Hynson. This same Ann, one would assume, married St. Leger Codd ca. 1693 after the death of Joseph Wickes in 1692. In Codd's Will of 1707-8 Ann is not listed, so one could assume that she had passed. It appears that there are two different Joseph Wickes' married to Ann Hynson the d/o Thomas Hynson who d. ca. 1678. Marrying one's DIL doesn't sound "cricket" but what may have happened is this. Joseph Wickes who came from VA to MD in 1650, age 30yo, got a widow Mary Hartwell pregnant abt. 1656 while she was living in VA. He did marry here in 1656 and supposedly she was imported with her two chn., Mary and Joseph Hartwell, no ages given. In 1671 in the Will of a Mary Gouldhawke, she lists her brother Joseph Wickes, and sister Rachel Wickes in addition to her loving father Joseph Wickes. Though I can find no evidence, it is possible that Joseph Wickes adopted the chn. of Mary Harwell, Joseph and Mary and Rachel was the bastard child that was Joseph's. This Joseph Hartwell Wickes could have married Ann Hynson which would have made her the "step DIL" to the elder Joseph Weeks who d. supposedly in 1692. Will be interested in your replies.
