I used to work with a Harold Hyland in Halifax, but he died this past year at age 70.
Why not go on-line to Canada's phone book @ www.canada411.com and try HYLAND and LYNCH names in Nova Scotia or other locations.
What other branches of your family lines might know of Estella and her story ? Usually when one family member does something extreme like this, there is a story about it that carries through different family lines. You could also try accessing BIRTHS & DEATHS in various provinces (some locations may ask for a billing address and charge you). In NS try:

I found this request on some website a while ago (I think it is @ www.genforum.com under LYNCH):
"Looking for long lost cousins--the children of Rose and Denny Lynch who grew up on Long Island, New York. Their father Denny was a fireman (as was his father Mike). Believe Rose returned to Nova Scotia after Denny's death from diabetes complications, but don't know if all the cousins went too (some were old enough to stay). The older cousins would be in their 50s. Cousins include Maureen Clare, Rosemary, Patricia, John Peter, and others. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!"
