Hi, thanks for the info. Christopher Hyland was my ggrandmothers brother. I know his father Richard was born in Ireland in 1835 and his father was Christopher. I am trying to get back to the Irish roots but it is so difficult. I live in England and two elderly aunts seem to think it was Wicklow which is near Dublin. During your research have you come across any reference to this branch of the family? I saw your post but none of the names you mentioned are family names in my branch. I guess being a comedian didn't work out for him if he became a painter! On the UK census for 1871 he was 15 and a joiner like his father. Once again thanks.
