ROSE ELIZA HYLAND/ Kent/Yorkshire or Ireland?!!!!!
Posted by: Christine (ID *****0351) Date: January 21, 2004 at 03:01:52

Still searching for the origins of my Gt Grandmother. The family thought she originated in Ireland, but 1901 census gives Tunbridge, Kent as birthplace.

Have found from her death certificate (1931 aged 68) that the date on her marriage certificate is wrong and understates her age by three years. She married William Pullan in Kirkstall, Leeds in 1891, but have so far been unable to locate her on 1881 or 1891.

Family story went that she was living with an uncle, retired army officer named French, in a private hotel but when he died the pension died with him and she was destitute and took work in a laundry. This might have been in a big house as other family story goes she was working at 'The Grange' when her husband met her. He was a gardener.

Please help me climb this brick wall!
