Hi Todd,
I'm Larry, George's son, my brother Robert, passed away a few years ago, my sister Linda resides in the Bronx and I am currently in Germany. Like you I'm looking for information on my grand father John A. After my father died in 1962 all contact seemed to cease with anyone in the Hyland's, with the exception of Eileen and Mary. I lived with Jack Feeney and his wife Mary for a short time after my fathers death. I believe they resided in the Bellrose section of Queens at the time. I know in later years they retired (Jack was a NYC Detective, retired as a "Gold" Shield) to upstate NY (Johnstown). I visited them there while I was living in Florida. My Aunt Eileen and I kept in touch through the years although I was a military careerist in the Air Force and always moving. I was stationed in Guam, when I was informed of her death, by a Lawyer. I guess we are the "Black Sheep" of the family as no connection was maintained and no assistance given (from the Hyland side) after my father died and especially after my mother passed away three years later. In fact she is not even interred with my Father at Holy Cross, but at Saint Charles out on Long Island, my brother as well. My brother had bitterness towards the Hyland's about this and other things that occurred after my fathers death. These went with him to the grave. My sister really doesn't care any more and I am kind of the same way although I believe what did occur, never should have, if I had been an adult at the time, instead of 12 years old, I would have gotten the Lawyer. However, times and the sites and sounds of a military career have mellowed me. I do desire to find my "roots", especially as I am now here in Europe. I do keep in touch with "Mary" and "Pat" Feeney. That is the only connections maintained. If you have garnered additional information regarding my Grandfather and/or his father and their lineage it would be appreciated. Thanks
