My great grandfather served under Captain John J. Hyland, commander of the U.S.S. North Carolina circa 1914. There was yet a second John J. Hyland, who was also a Navy man during World War II, who ended up being a 4 star Admiral! I think he was born in the South and died in Hawaii.

That's the end of the Hyland stories for me. Kinji
