Erica- Hi, my husband's grandmother is a Hyden and we have the family book. Here is some information that may help you, and also we are in the process of scanning the book to make it e-mail accessable. We have many pictures of the Hydens, dating all the way back to the late 1700's. The book it's about 145 pages and still growing as we find more relatives, such as you and your in-laws! Direct-Line Ancestors Francis Heydon died in 1606 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. His son, Edward Heydon, married Frances Burr in Watford, had a son named Francis (jr) Heydon who was baptized 8/14/1628. Francis (jr) moved to Maryland, as he fell off the records in England and showed up on Maryland records. He had a son named William Heydon. William had a son named William (jr) Heydon. William Jr. disappeared from Maryland tax roles, and William Hyden (note spelling change) showed up on Stafford Co., VA tax roles. William Jr. married Lucy ____? Hyden & had 2 daughters and 6 sons. we descend from one of those sons; Daniel Hyden (3/17/1743 - 11/12/1837) born in Stafford County, VA died Lee County, VA he had 5 sons and 2 daughters with wife, Mary:we descend from a son; John C. (Jack) Hyden (1785-1858) married #1 Elizabeth Brashear (daughter of Nancy M. Vaughn <Choctaw Indian> and Turner Brashear) in 1804 and #2 Phoebe Bailes Lakey Hyden Harrington (daughter of Bailes and Rebecca Adamson who were Quakers.) in 1855. Long story, but he is buried in Webster Co, MO. (took wagon train WEST). had 4 children:one son was Samuel Monroe Hyden (8/16/1808-10/23/1880)was born in Lee County, VA and buried in Falls Co., TX. He married #1 Eliza Carter(born 1815 Wythe Co. Va and buried 1882 in TN) and #2 Nancy D. Lockhart (whom he moved to Texas, where a lot of Hydens now reside). He had 6 children from each wife, but with Eliza he had a son named: George Rice Hyden born in 1831 in Virginia and died ?, married Elizabeth Thomas born 10/?/1825 and died ?, and had 2 sons and a daughter. 1. Samuel Slater Thomas Hyden (11/6/1852 - 4/8/1914)married Rachel Marlena Cupp. Died in Fonde, buried at Fonde-Pruden Cemetery in an unmarked grave. 2. Susan Elinor Hyden (?/?/1854 - 7/?/1900) married Joseph Marsee on Jan. 1, 1868 3. John A.J. Hyden (?/?/1855 - ?/?/1933) married Mary Emaline Cupp Now this is where I am going to have trouble helping you any further, as in the book it says that George Rice was the hardest person to track down and we don't have very much info on him. He disappears from our records but left the family and gone to Arkansas, where he joined the Confederacy, was captured, imprisoned, and switched sides. He married Elizabeth McKittery, died, and was buried in Arkansas. Well, it seems as if this is where we part ways on information, but I would love to track a new line if you think this sounds like one. Please let me know if this helps and if, once we get the book scanned, you would like a copy. Diane Notify Administrator about this message?
