Hi Gene

According to my mother (Ethelind Janet Snead), David Marshall Hyden is my Great grandfather.

He married Hanna Susan Smith (born 06-03-1863 but the (marriage date is unknown. HSS gave birth to my grandmother Amelia Ruth Vera Hyden (born 08-23-1896). HSS was his second wife after his first wife, Sarah Fellers, died after 7 children (sorry I don't know their names). His third wife, Catherine, was HSS's sister. David Marshall, apparently, did not have any children through Catherine.

I have also been stumped by the father of David Marshall Hyden. Family history has his name as Joseph David Hyden, however other resources (census) have his name as David Joseph Hyden. JDH (or DJH) died in 11-19-1898. He was also a millwright who ran the Hyden mill. My mom has a couple of old pictures of the mill but nothing that shows detains (other than its wood construction). We have also been by the creek where it stood but I was only a kid then and don't remember details.

JDH (or DJH) married Hester A. E. Balsley, (B: 09-06-1832, M: __-__-____, D: 02-27-1904)

The rest of this information (in bold italics) based on (potentially unreliable) census data and other people's internet searching and may be incorrect as I have not confirmed any of this with marriage, birth and death records.

JDH (or DJH)'s siblings included Jane, Ellen, Martha, Catherine, Ann, and Sarah. If this sibling information is correct, his parents were Joshua Hyden (B: __-__-____, M: 02-02-1796, D: __-__-____) and Martha Chesnut (B: __-__-____, M: 02-02-1796, D: __-__-____). I don't have any more information on Martha Chesnut.

Hester A. E. Balsley was the daughter of Jessie Balsley (B: December 03, 1801, M: January 30, 1832, D: January 19, 1869) and Hannah E. Pew (B: January 12, 1802, M: January 30, 1832, D: September 17, 1876). Both of these people were born, married and died in Augusta County, VA. I don't have any more information on Hannah Pew.

Joshua Hyden was the son of Richard Hyden (B: __-__-____, M: __-__-____, D: __-__-____) and Lucy Alsop (B: __-__-____, M: __-__-____, D: __-__-____). They were married in Washington Co. VA. I don't have any more information on Richard Hyden or Lucy Alsop.

Jessie Balsley was the son of Christian Balsley (B: May 01, 1756 in Reading, Berks Co., PA, M: __-__-____, D: July 31, 1837 in Back Creek, Augusta Co, VA) and Elizabeth KEINADT (B: April 29, 1760 in Lancaster Co. PA, M: __-__-____, D: December 10, 1844 in Back Creek, Augusta Co). Jessie Balsley had the following siblings Catherine, George Adam, John, Christian, Elisabeth, Jacob, Rebecca, Jonathan, Conrad Samuel, Samuel, and Elijah. I don't have any more information on Christian Balsley.

Elizabeth Keinadt was the daughter of Michael Keinadt (B:__-__-____, M: August 19, 1778, Cumberland Co., PA, D:__-__-____) and Margaret Diller, B:__-__-____, M: August 19, 1778, Cumberland Co., PA, D:__-__-____). I don't have any more information on Michael Keinadt or Margaret Diller.

Well, there you have it, that's all I know and it may be wrong. Can you confirm or deny any of this information? Do you have any additional and/or contradictory information? Let me know. I would love to flesh out my family tree.

Eric
