Hello Eric!
Believe Cottington to be a dead end and am now focused on Collington in Hereford.Trying to establish a link.Know from the History of Parliament, House of Commons 1660-1690, Lawrence Hyde of Hinton Daubney, Catherington, Hants, was described as a "clerk" when he was captured with the Dorset clubmen in 1645.This was before he inherited Hinton Daubney from his brother, Arthur. The question is, who was he clerking for? When we find that, we may find the link to Collington.
Have an LDS reference to Anna Hyde, daughter of Nicholas, of Hinton Daubney, Wilts.Perhaps she was baptised there. From the History of Parliament referenced above, we know that Nicholas bought Hinton Daubney in 1604.The Visitation of Wilts shows 1-Judith and 2-Anna.Our records agree on 1605 as the year of Judith's birth, so if Anna was the second daughter, she was born after her father bought Hindton Daubney. It is likely that you will find her in the Wilts records.
Look forward to hearing about what you find.
The Dictionary of National Bioigraphy, v. 10, has Nicholas as the fourth son (not the eldest) of Lawrence Hyde of West Hatch Tisbury, Wilts, and of gussage St. Michael, Dorset.Further, "his grandfathter was Robert Hyde of Norbury, Cheshire, Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon, was his nephew . . . returned to parliament for Andover in 1601, and for Christchurch in 1603-4"
Stranger still, my wife is from Chippenham, Wilts. Her mother and a brother still live there and we visit quite often.I was born in the mountains of North Carolina and grew up in the states.
Look forward to hearing more about your research.
Regards,
Tom
