I read with interest all of the queries about the various William Hydes and Deacon Samuel Hydes. There is a book "Kin of Mellcene Thurman Smith" that is posted on GenealogyLibrary.com. It goes into very great detail about William Hyde, the immigrnat to Norwich, Ct. and gives his genealogy. This book has obiviously been well researched, and it gives the names of many prominent genealogist who did the research, in American and the UK. According to the history in the book, William is the son of Robert of England. William was in Hartford & Norwich, Ct. According to this info William was born in England on Jan. 6, 1681/2. According to the LDS he was born 1597/1600. His first wife was unknown but second he married Joanna... widow of Robert Abel. He had, by his first wife, Hester, born England, m John Post, Samuel, my ancestor, born ?, m Jane Lee, and last Jonathan, b ?, married Mary French. According to this book, Samuel was the ancestor of Grover Cleveland. I think I am more inclined to accept this book that was done and researched thoroughly rather than the LDS. There appears to obiviously have been two William Hydes. I am sure that both were not in Norwich, Ct. at the same time. According to the LDS Samuel was born 1636, but I am sure that is a little late as his father would have been close to 60 so I assume he was born ca 1610.
