Early Virginia Hydes
Though a Japanese national, I am descended from various early Virginia colonial families, one of which are the Hydes (Hides). I am interested if anyone can help me out with the following family line:
Richard Hyde I (Hide), born in 1613, arrived in Virginia in 1635 as a servant for Edward Minter, bought land in 1650, marries before 1659, and dies probably sometime in the 1660's.
Richard Hyde II, son of Richard Hyde I, marries a woman by the name of Mary around 1690 and dies in 1710, having three children (1-Elizabeth who marries John Smith before her father dies and has at least two daughters, Anne being born before 1710 and Mary being born before 1718; 2 - Richard Hyde III; and 3 - Jane (Jean), the wife of Thomas Cotton II and, thereby, my ancestress). Richard Hyde II's wife Mary remarries, wedding Thomas Cotton I, the uncle and heir of Thomas Cotton II.
Richard Hyde III likewise marries a woman by the name of Mary. He passes away very young leaving three infant sons, Richard IV, David, and Benjamin.
I know almost nothing of Richard Hyde IV or David Hyde. I do know that Benjamin Hyde died in 1756 at the age of about 37, leaving two young daughter by the names of Rebecca and Mary. These two girls were put under the guardianship of Gray Briggs.
The above being the full extent of my knowledge of the Hyde (Hide) families, I would appreciate any leads that might be available.
