Lucy Hyde/Seithechain b. 1836/7
I am trying to locate baptism details on g aunt Lucy Hyde, b. 1836/7 perhaps “in America”, and also the marriage of her parents John Hyde & Ellen Mc Auliffe. The returned to Midleton, Co. Cork, Ireland to have and raise six other children, the youngest of whom was my g father Cornelius. He may have used the Irish language version of “Hyde” as his surname in his new life. That might have been “Sheahan” or similar.
Also, I would love to hear from any emigrant descendants surnamed “Sheahan” (“Seitheachain” or similar). This is because I have only recently discovered that my father and I wrongly used the Irish surname “de hIde”. Dad’s g father was our last native Irish-speaking ancestor and he left his signature on a ms. I’ve now seen. He signed his name Seaghan O Seitheachain (not de hIde).
