John Hyde b. 1844 Ireland
I am trying to locate details on g uncle John Hyde, b. 5 June 1844 in Cork, Ireland. He hada large family in Westville, Cambridge Mass. His children included: son John who visited Ireland en route home from US army service in WWI; son Ted, who went to Chigago, and daughters Hazel & Ella who “were teachers and never married”. He may have used the Irish language version of “Hyde” as his surname in his new life. That might have been “Sheahan” or similar.
Also, I would love to hear from any emigrant descendants surnamed “Sheahan” (“Seitheachain” or similar). This is because I have only recently discovered that my father and I wrongly used the Irish surname “de hIde”. Dad’s g father was our last native Irish-speaking ancestor and he left his signature on a ms. I’ve now seen. He signed his name Seaghan O Seitheachain (not de hIde).
