Philip Hyde b. 1838 Ireland
I am trying to locate details on g uncle Philip Hyde, b. 3 March 1838 in Cork, Ireland. He was a Carpenter/Furniture maker who “left Cork” c. 1870/80s according to family memory – i.e. young enough to have had a second family. He may have used the Irish language version of “Hyde” as his surname in his new life. That might have been “Sheahan” or similar.
Also, I would love to hear from any emigrant descendants surnamed “Sheahan” (“Seitheachain” or similar). This is because I have only recently discovered that my father and I wrongly used the Irish surname “de hIde”. Dad’s g father was our last native Irish-speaking ancestor and he left his signature on a ms. I’ve now seen. He signed his name Seaghan O Seitheachain (not de hIde).
