Hyde/South Wales/CastleHyde Co.Cork
My father William James Hyde was born in Maesteg, Glamorgan, South Wales 7/10/1914 only son of gf William Hyde born 1893 in Merthyr, Glam. My gf was married to Agnes Begley born 1887.It is important to know that my ggf William Hyde was born in Mallow, Co. Cork abt 1830 and sailed to Bristol England circa 1842 on "The Dodo" from Cork with his parents Thomas and Anne Hyde.My ggf Willaim Hyde married Elizabeth and died in 1923.The Hydes, Begleys, and other Irish Catholics walked from Bristol to the Rhondda valley in South Wales to find work in the coalmines.Between Fermoy and Mallow is Castlehyde, (today one of the world's finest stud farms) there have been Hydes there since the 1600s until 1851 when "Sweet Castle Hyde" was sold by the Hydes in the Encumbered Estates Court and bought by the brewer Arthur Guinness from whom it was bought in 1856 by the notorious Irish politician John Sadlier. My father's story is that a younger brother of Anne Hyde (one of the wives of Henry VIII) had a land grant in Ireland - maybe Castlehyde? He was from Buckinghamshire.... a bientot! (I am in Paris)
