I am not sure this will be helpful to you but it might be
In the United States Census of 1850 there is a record of an
Orcutt Hyde who is head of household born in 1801 amd a woman Loranne age 44 (most likely his wife) and three children
Clarinda (whom I believe to be my own ancestor) age 17,
Volney age 15, and Eldridge age 14.
You had Volney born in 1833 which would have made him 17 at the time of the 1850 Census rather than 15 as was given in the Census that I am citing. So if you are sure of the date of birth of your Volney Hyde then he is not the same person.
Additionally, you say he was buried with an Elizebeth that you believe to be his mother, whereas
what appears to be his mother in the Census is named Lorane (which I think is misspelled and should be Laurana.)
Also, at the time of the 1850 Census the family was living in the township of Chesterfiedl, in Essex County, New York NOT in Vermont. But of course, the children could have been born in Vermont and then moved to upstate New York before the 1850 Census and his wife at that time might have died and he could have remarried an Elizebeth. But according to my family tradition and other records Clarinda (my ancestor and Volney's older sister) was born in upstate New York.)
I have never been interested in going back past the sixth generation, but if you are then there is an Orcutt Hyde with a son Volney born in 1833 (but no siblings listed) which goes back many generations. But not with much docuementation so I do not know how trustworthy it is.
What is interesting though is that the wife of this Orcutt with the extensive tree is said to have a wife Lauranna who was the mother of Volney. This seems to match the couple in the Census record (except for the age of Volney and except for the fact that no siblings are listed for that Volney).
If this Orcutt Hyde is the father of YOUR Volney then you have a lot of work done for you -- but if it is then your ancestor is Lauranna not Elizebeth (who if it the same family) must have been a second wife presumabley after the death of the first.)
You might also be interested in knowing that according to my family tradition Luaranna was a full blooded Mohawk Indian from the ST. Regis Indian Reservation in Upstate, New York. There is some documentation that shows that her mother's name was Mahitable and the father's last name was Collins (I forget the first but it would seem to suggest that Lauranna was a half breed and not full blooded Mohawk,)But my grandfather's sister knew her grandmother personally who said that her mother was Lauranna and was a full blooded Indian and passed stories on to her of her life on the reservation. Also the couple, Mr. Collins and his wife Mahitable, were found in Census of Native Americans and not in the regular Census.
However if Lauranna was born on that reservation then she was not born in Vermont and then it is not likely that her younger brother Volney would have been born in Vermont - so it hangs on whether you are sure of the date and place of brigh of your ancestor Volney as to whether any of my information is helpful to you.
I suspect that your Volney could very well be a different person, but there are lots of coincidences her that you might want to follow up on.Volney might have been a common name back then, but the fact that he died in upstate, New York (I think you said Chateguay) leads me to believe that Orcutt and Lauranna may have been your ancestors as well as mine.
If you want more details let me know.
