Not sure if it will help, but I research Regular Army soldiers. I found Absalom Hyde from Pickins District, South Carolina in one of the units I am currently looking into. Here is the information.
19 Apr 1855 - Absalom Hyde, 21, Pickins District, South Carolina, a farmer, enlisted at Newman, Kansas(?), by Capt Anderson for 5 years in Company F, 1st Cavalry, later transferred to Company H, 2nd Inf. Gray eyes, light hair, fair complexion, 5 feet 11.5 inches tall. Discharged 6 Mar 1860 by re-enlisment in the Company at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, a Sergeant.
6 Mar 1860 - Abasalom Hyde, 26, Pickens, South Carolina, a soldier, enlisted at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, by Lt Lee for 5 years in Company H, 2nd Inf. Gray eyes, light hair, fair complexion, 5 feet 11.5 inches tall. 2 enlistments. Previoulsy served in Company H, 2nd Inf. Discharged 15 Jun 1864 per S.O. 210, A.G.O. to accept a commission in 16th Kansas Cavalry (conditionally).
Capt Absalom Hyde was dismissed from the service, to date from 6 Mar 1865 for offering false promises to men to enlist in the army.
