1943 fatal car accident + John Sydney Hyde
My great grandfather John Sydney (or Sidney) Hyde was traveling with his wife from San Diego, California toYork County, Maine to bury the ashes of his son, Ariel Perry Hyde. The accident could have been in any State along his route to Maine....but I suspect he made it as far as the New England States. Two of my Uncle's now desceased found this information previously. No documents were passed down to aid me in my search.
He (John S. Hyde) apparently was coming down a hill and because of lack of feeling in his foot (from diabetes) had difficulty braking. He had a car accident and died.He would have been 83 years old November of 1943.His wife, Susan Arabella (Brown) Hyde was injured.Their surviving son, John A. Hyde was contacted.
There is likely newspaper articles on the accident and death.Hopefully a obituary. There may have been a inquest into the accident. The State where he died would have a death record.I would like information leading to any (and all) of this information. The accident did not occur in Oregon where the surviving son lived.I've already searched for death records and a obituary there.
He intended to bury his son Ariel P. Hyde's ashes in a cemetery where he had another son buried in York County, Maine.(The Hyde son buried in Maine was born between 1890-1900 and died when a child...before 1900 I think. The age of this child is unknown.)(Ariel was the father of 8 children. He died 6 March 1941 at LaMesa, California.) I would also like information on the date and death of that child, and where he was buried.I would like information of what the child died of and where he was buried.
John S. Hyde was cremeated, and his ashes taken to Oregon and buried 9 December 1943 along with the ashes of his son Ariel P. Hyde's ashes.Susie A. Hyde was admitted to the Oregon State Hospital.
John & Susie Hyde apparently took the trip between LaMesa, San Diego Co., California to York Co., Maine 15 times between 1920-1943.I don't know what route they traveled.
I would appreciate assistance in finding the rest of the story. These little mysteries have eluded me for years.
